Quant Report for 2010-05-21

Updated 5:50am EST - After the NIKKEI closed lower by -2.45%, European equity markets have started to trend higher after initial declines at Euro open. US equity futures are up ahead of the US open after significant declines this week. Commodities are rebounding after a dismal week. Crude is trading just above the $70/barrel handle coming down from nearly $90/barrel earlier this month. In the currency markets, the Japanese yen has retreated after yesterday’s considerable gains. Conversely, the commodity currencies (Australian dollar, Canadian dollar) are rebounding, along with the commodities, after consecutive days of declines. The Euro has regained some ground after hitting fresh 2010 lows in the last few days. CPI out of Canada is due out at 7am EST followed by Canadian retail sales data at 8:30am EST.
